ALISON HALL

Alison Hall’s paintings have an instantaneous impact. They shimmer and glisten in the light as if they were made of silver thread. However, the true depth of her work reveals itself slowly. Her incredibly detailed marks made in graphite, laid on top of layers of oil paint, record both the time and labor it takes to make them. When her works are examined in person and up close, the energy that occurs between her lines and symbols is unexpected, emphasizing the seemingly continuous but yet discontinuous patterns. The labor-intensive nature of her works are an acknowledgement of her ancestors and their history of working with their hands in textiles and agriculture. Since 2022, her paintings rest in handmade artist frames that leave each work as a complete object.
