Artist's CV

Christopher Chiappa was born in 1970 in West Chester, PA. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI) before receiving a BA from Middlebury College in 1993 (Middlebury, VT); he later attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1998 (Madison, ME). He currently lives and works in Long Island City, NY.

Chiappa has held numerous solo exhibitions at galleries and institutions, including Kate Werble Gallery, New York, NY (2018, 2015-2016, 2012, 2010); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah, GA (2018); the Art-in-Buildings Program, Time Equities, Inc., New York, NY (2017); Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams, MA (2014- 2015); Speer Gallery, The Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, PA (2013); Isolation Room/Gallery Kit, St. Louis, MO (2013); Art Los Angeles Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA (2010); Fredericks & Freiser, New York, NY (2003, 2000); and Jessica Fredericks Gallery, New York, NY (1998).

His work has been shown at galleries and institutions including Shulamit Nazarian (Los Angeles, CA); Fisher Parrish Gallery (Brooklyn, NY); Oracle (Berlin, DE); the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia, PA); Museums of Bat Yam (Bat Yam, IL); Western Bridge (Seattle, WA); Reynolds House Museum of American Art (Winston Salem, NC); Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (Santa Barbara, CA); Andrea Rosen Gallery (New York, NY); James Cohan Gallery (New York, NY); Modern Art (London, UK); Modern Collections (London, UK); Exit Art (New York, NY); and François Ghebaly Gallery (Los Angeles, CA).

Residencies include The Fountainhead Residency, Miami Beach, FL (2011), and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Madison ME (2009). Chiappa’s works are featured in public collections at institutions including The Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art at Ursinus College, and The Student Union Collection of Contemporary Art at Wake Forest University.
